Jim Megaw, Yellow Pack Crisps and Back to Skool
Back to School adverts used to bring me out in cold sweats as a kid. Miserable adults coming up with miserable campaigns to tell us that our summer happiness was coming to an end, and sooner than we ever thought.
They’d even use a krazy “k” to spell “skool”. Since then i’ve never trusted any retail outlet or service that utilises the krazy k. I’m looking at you Krafty Kutz.
So it is with great joy, that i now share this same information… spreading misery to children across the lands.
Places like Heatons are also doing their part, but in a rather more constructive way, by offering a one-stop-shop… in their stores and online for school essentials – meaning less time will be spent at the till and more time left for enjoying sunny summer days. They have everything from school wear to lunch bags and accessories.
It was a “Crazy Prices” carrier bag with some Yellow Pack crisps if you were lucky. The rich kids might have had a Capri Sun.
In late August you’d get a trip to Crazy Prices supermarket where you’d inspect the wide variety of black plimsoles… all exactly the same. Just different sizes.
You’d still end up with a pair that didn’t fit though.
(for those from outside NI, Crazy prices and Stewarts were our only supermarkets before Tesco invaded and occupied our lands)
While we’re on the topic, what ever happened to Jim Megaw and his Mega Deals? He’s probably sunning himself on a beach in Barbados with all his Tesco winnings. Here’s a video to remind you of his charisma:
Anyway, long story short – don’t be cruel to your kids, go visit your local Heatons store or shop online at www.heatonsstores.com to stock up on their ‘Back to School’ offers. You can also follow Heatons on facebook at www.facebook.com/heatonsstores.
